Top PPC-Advice.com Content, Year in Review

Happy New Year to all my loyal readers and those of you finding my blog for the first time. This past year has been an overwhelming success for PPC-Advice, with a record amount of visitors, pagevies, and referrals. I’ve been lucky enough to meet several of you face-to-face in various conferences, and look forward to what 2009 has to offer. That being said, let’s have a quick look at my 2008 Year in Review, the best and most popular posts that made 2008 special.
Here are my top 5 posts for 2008 in order of popularity:
Omniture Excel Client: One heck of an Analytics Tool: Back in February, we reviewed what makes the Omniture SiteCatalyst Excel Client so special, and why it’s my tool of choice for creating custom reports quickly and easily.
SiteCatalyst 14 and SearchCenter 3 Growing Pains: In March, just before the Omniture 2008 Summit, SiteCatalyst 14 and SearchCenter 3 was pushed live. Far be it from the folks at Omniture to do any exhaustive testing and bug fixing prior to releasing new versions of Search Center, but we expected more for SiteCatalyst.
WebTrends Ad Director, Simplyfing Online Marketing: It was during SES San Jose in August that WebTrends announced WebTrends Ad Director, a diversion from keyword-based management tools that have flooded the market. Instead, keywords are grouped and evaluated on the campaign level, adjusting budgets and CPCs to help fuel the overall success of a broad collection of ads.
Adsspy Plays Hardball with Made-for-Adsense Sites: Ever wonder why your content network ads don’t perform very well? It’s because webmasters know how to cheat the system, by assembling hordes of websites that scrape true content sites and monetize everything accordingly. Adsspy helps by letting you correlate those content placement reports with site owners and exclude sites en masse.
Google Adwords Quality Score and Landing Page Speed: A surprisingly popular post that discussed the Adwords algorithm and how it measured comparative landing page speed, favoring those sites that added to the search user experience. Playing “spot the unoptimized image” is always fun, but not if you have to wait eons for flash, images, or video to load.
With this quick review of 2008, I’d be remiss if I didn’t put forth my 2009 resolutions with respect to the future of PPC-Advice.com. The latter months of 2008 saw few meaningful and newsworth posts, but 2009 will be different. We’ll focus on the analytics and financial aspects of online marketing, and how the dynamic is changing in a recessionary economy.
Again, Happy New Year to all, and hope to see you back soon!
