Must-see Search Engine Strategies San Jose Sessions, Day 1 Preview
Aug 11, 2008 SES Tour
With Search Engine Strategies days away, I’ll take a look at which sessions are “must-see” in San Jose. What makes SES in San Jose different is sheer size. I have yet to see some actual numbers, but the billing will likely live up to the hype. The show is so big in fact that organizers have crammed 5 sessions per interval, making choosing a session to attend that much more difficult. Here are our picks…
Day 1 - Monday Aug 18th
9.45 AM — It seems like Monday morning sessions cover a good mix of introductory topics. The one I’m particularly interested in attending is “More Customers, Fewer Costs: Why Marketing to the ‘Long Tail’ Makes Sense”. From a SEM angle, it makes sense to diversify your keyword portfolio sooner than later. Long tail keywords typically convert better, cost less, and yield higher position. With added competition joining the single and double keyword market every day, costs are likely to only go up.
11:15 AM — This timeslot has a few hot contenders for my pick. I’m currently leaning towards either “Igniting Viral Campaigns” - a topic that’s been done before, but since concepts continue to elude the majority of marketers, it’s a hard session to pass up. A strong runner up for this timeslot is “Pay Per Conversation,” which mixes online marketing topics with social elements and conversion.
2:45 PM — Those poor (rich) guys at Google must be laughing at the session entitled “Everything but Google: Alternative Search Advertising Options,” especially since they’re one of (if not the) biggest sponsors of the show. Althought it might be tempting, I’m not biting this time. Personall, I’d like to know more about “Search Around the World - Part 2: The UK & Europe” but “Storyteller Marketing” also looks appealing. I’m hoping a few people can sway my decision on this one.
Tomorrow I’ll go over my Day 2 picks for SES San Jose, stay tuned. If you’re going to the show and want to meet up at some point, please don’t hesitate to drop me a line!
