Gift Giving for Search Marketers
Dec 17, 2007 Uncategorized
‘Tis the season for gift giving, and what better way to educate the masses than to write a post about what to buy that tough to please search marketer for the holidays. I know many search marketing professionals are often faced with the dilemma of asking people where they bought certain gifts, for how much, and how they found that particular gift. Marketing is in our nature. So what are the Top 10 gifts for search marketers this holiday season?
Obviously, not all of us will be spending the same amount of money on our search marketing friends and family members, so my list includes some affordable and expensive gifts that will warm their hearts this season:
- Cool gadgets from Think Geek: some popular choices in my opinion are the WiFi detector t-shirt (for the agency-side road-warrior SEM), WTF t-shirt (especially useful for Content Network advertisers), or maybe a cell phone signal extender (for basement dwellers).
- Caffeine, and lots of it. Friends don’t let friends drink Tim Horton’s coffee. Illy has your coffee fix.
- Microsoft Zune (aka the Apple eater) from Buy.com is very cool.
- Books on search marketing set for release in January 2008, such as “Marketing through Search Optimization” and “Search Engine Optimization” from Chapters Indigo.
- An iPod is always a safe bet, or even iTunes gift cards so they can opt into those fee-based podcasts from industry insiders.
- Wii Lightsaber Remote. Enough said.
- Donation to charitable organizations in their name, preferably with published website links to company sites or blog pages. Link love for the holidays!
- A copy of “Superbad”. Too funny!
- Microsoft Xbox Live Points for all those downloadable goodies from Xbox Live!
- A bigger advertising budget for 2008!
