Omniture Buggier than a…
September 6th, 2007 Posted in OmnitureLike a kid outside a pet store, I once had eager anticipation for new releases from Omniture - my paid analytics package of choice - until recently that is. Unscheduled downtime, communication challenges, unreported “enhancements”, and so on are making my love affair bittersweet. The honeymoon is officially over because Omniture’s software has become buggier than a…
- Omniture is buggier than a four-horse chariot.
- Omniture is buggier than a Winnipeg picnic in July.
- Omniture is buggier than Joe’s Apartment.
- Omniture is buggier than Microsoft Internet Explorer.
…I could go on, but let’s review what’s wrong with Omniture:
- I would love to be notified of upcoming maintenance, system upgrades, software enhancements and downtime, alas it is simply not to be.
- Printing reports within Omniture is virtually impossible thanks to a new system upgrade that populates a navigation bar within a “printer friendly” output.
- The option to export reports in Excel or any other format results in quite a long wait to generate a report that is already outputted in the browser, why is that?
- Exporting reports from Omniture and selecting to download them immediately isn’t so immediate, and if the report generating takes longer than about 30 seconds, it gets e-mailed to you when the report is complete. Had you been given the option to wait another 5 seconds the report actually needs to compile, it wouldn’t be so bad. When you finally do get the report e-mailed to you after 10-20 minutes, you’ve already logged in, customized, printed, and started analyzing the same report from Google Analytics.
- Is it that difficult to program software that can plot two lines on the same graph? For instance, CPC and Average Position would be two metrics that complement each other quite well.
- When faced with problems in SearchCenter, support representatives seem to be encouraged to instruct users to “use the same feature from SiteCatalyst.” It’s a good thing I opted to pay for SearchCenter in addition to SiteCatalyst. Customers can’t expect both to work, can they?
Am I being to tough on Omniture? Perhaps, but I feel it only fair to offset some of the buzz generated by (paid?) Analysts at Marketing Sherpa and Forrester who obviously haven’t used the software in some time. Don’t worry, once they fix these problems I’ll be only too happy to tout their fantastic bug-free software. Until then… buyer beware.
